• Tyramine is a naturally occurring monoamine that is derived from the decarboxylation of the amino acid tyrosine utilized in human and invertebrate nervous systems
• Tyramine is synthesized and released from neurons and acts as a neuromodulator upon binding to tyramine receptors
• Tyramine has been found to impact the immune system and cardiovascular system in humans
Applications
• Tyramine may be used to form tyramide conjugate, which can be used as a signal amplification reagent in immunofluorescence assays
• Tyramine-hyaluronic acid conjugates can be used to form biodegradable hydrogels, with utility in drug delivery and tissue engineering
