Description
Methyl Red is an azo dye that is a pH indicator that turns color in the presence of acid solutions (red in pH <4.4, yellow in pH >6.2, orange in between). It is particularly used in the MR Test for identifying enteric bacteria that produce stable acids during glucose metabolism (fermentation).- Prepared by mixing 50g methyl red in a mixture of 1.86mL of 0.1M sodium hydroxide and 50mL ethanol, and diluted to 100mL with water
