Due to glass disease it may happen that the carboys have inside a crust on the surface. Humidity during storage causes salts to hydrate and leach out of the glass. Upon a reduction of relative humidity, these hydrated salts can then form a crust on the surface. These salts are sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate and silicon dioxide. Therefore we recommend to wash the carboys before filling.
