Description
It finds applications in ceramic flux, glass manufacturing, metallurgy, electronics and dry-film lubricants. It is transparent from ultraviolet to infrared. Barium fluoride is usually employed as a scintillator material, and useful as a transmission window material for IR spectroscopy, mostly used for analysis of fuel oil samples. Of all the optical fluorides, it is the most resistant to high-energy radiation. It is used as a preopacifying agent, and in the production of enamel, welding agents, and glazing frits.
